To prevent airflow, dust and debris from affecting maintenance work on the high-pressure control valve (HPCV), pneumatic plugs were inserted into the pipes. On the afternoon of the 30th the first plug was installed and inflated to 2.5 (recommended pressure). Later that night the plug in the HPCV ruptured. The released pressure blew a plywood cover from the valve bonnet joint several meters into the air.
