Cable Crushed by Hatch Cover

Description:
During normal end of day tidy up, a live cable was damaged when it was crushed between a metal hatch cover and a floor grating. The cable was protected by a residual current device (RCD) which prevented the contractor from being exposed to an electrical shock.
The cable had been knocked from its intended position between the concrete and the hatch where it had been safely located.
